Garden Volunteer

Saturday mornings, other times to be announced. Assisting with ongoing garden projects at their sites across the city, as well as intensive efforts for new garden builds.

Opportunity to learn from garden experts and support their growth in creating access to green space for diverse local residents, while boosting the environment by transforming vacant lots to health-promoting spaces.

Santa Fe Community Garden

Garden Volunteer

The garden is a partnership between the private property owner, Casa Chaskis Peruvian Restaurant, and UC Master Gardener Program. 

Garden Volunteer hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday  9a.m.  - 12 p.m.  Thursday  afternoons are 2 - 5 p.m. Interested community members can inquire on Facebook below or contact jfrowe@rocketmail.com

Volunteering at this space helps create an educational space for thousands of youth, and crops grown for direct food aid in West Long Beach through Food Finders. 

Volunteer opportunities are not constant, but are shared on their website and Instagram.

Growing Experience Urban Farm

Farm Volunteer

The MAYE Center currently operates this urban farm, working with community partners to grow and share produce with Carmelitos Residents and beyond. They offer opportunities to assist with growing, harvesting, and distributing their produce at their farm stand.

Adventures to Dreams Enrichment

Youth Program Volunteer

Adventures to Dreams is a youth enrichment program that takes place in a community garden each weekend. The organization, founded by Sheila G in 2015, provides fun, hands-on, educational activities for youth ages 5-16. They also host weekly free food distribution events. 

Perks

Helping at this project creates opportunities for youth to play and learn in open space, and can be a useful experience for locals who are working toward child development careers.

Sowing Seeds of Change

Farm Volunteer

Sowing Seeds of Change is an an educational farm that encourages healthy living, environmental stewardship through vocational training, youth entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities at their site West of Downtown. They offer volunteers the opportunity to work on the farm, assist with educational programming, help with social media, fundraising, or administrative tasks.

LB Community Compost

Opportunities

Composting Helper
Compost Contributor

Located at Willow Springs park, this non-profit organization processes organic scraps back into local soil. Composting is a great way to regenerate our environment and grow more local food. This organization accepts drop-offs of kitchen scraps on Friday mornings at the Willow Springs site, and at Downtown Long Beach Farmers Market, and welcomes volunteers who want to learn the process Friday mornings as well.
